Christian Home Educators of
West Virginia
There are three levels of participation:  Senior High (9-12), Junior High (7-9), and Elementary (4-6).  9th Graders may choose the division of  participation.  The festivals are not a competition, but rather each participant is rated on a predetermined set of criteria and receives a rating according to his or her performance.

It must be understood that CHEWV is not a member of the AACS.  Therefore, at the Senior High level our students are not eligible to advance to the National Competition at Bob Jones University.  WVCEA has graciously invited our home educated students to participate at the state level for many years.  This invitation is very much appreciated, because it gives home schoolers an opportunity to improve talents and earn state-level recognition from a recognized organization.  This recognition is valuable to include on college entrance applications and in college portfolios.

Each student is critiqued and rated by at least two judges who have expertise in that area.  These ratings are then averaged to determine whether the student will be given a Superior Award, an Excellent Award, or a rating.  At the Senior and Junior High Levels, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places are also recognized.
